About The Event
Chax Press brings in-person classes to the Tucson community. In this 6-session class, we will discuss the nature of modernism as it develops out of key 19th Century poets, through the early 20th Century. Lectures on Modernism, and on the 4 poets (Stephane Mallarmé, William Butler Yeats, Guillaume Apollinaire, and Wallace Stevens), with a final wind-up lecture & Question & Answer session. Q&A will also be possible at each of the first five sessions.
Instructor Charles Alexander has been on the faculty at Pima Community College, the University of Arizona, the University of Houston-Victoria, and Naropa University. He has lectured at US Poets in Mexico, and has lectured and given poetry readings throughout the USA as well as in Canada, the UK, China, and France. In 2021 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Literary Publishing from the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses.
